"I think I came to discover music for myself... now I’m an artist first, an entertainer, but that uses his music to support the causes he believes in."
Emmanuel Jal was born into the life of a child soldier on an unknown date in the early 1980s in the war-torn region of South Sudan. Today, he is an acclaimed recording artist, known for his unique style of hip-hop with its message of peace born out of his personal experiences.
In 2014, Jal co-starred alongside Reese Witherspoon in the Warner Bros. film, The Good Lie, which tells the story of four young Sudanese refugees who win a lottery for relocation to the United States. Despite his accomplishments in music and film, Jal remains passionate about working with individuals to help them overcome the effects of war and poverty.
When you sponsor a child, you help break the cycle of poverty by providing a child and their community with life-saving necessities. Canadians have been partnering with World Vision for 60 years, because they've discovered that sponsorship works. With your help, we partner with the child, their family, neighbours and local leaders to transform a struggling community into one that is thriving. World Vision’s programs focus on Food, Education, Health, Clean water, Child Protection and other vital areas which improve the lives of children and their community.
