"What really stuck on me is that people aren't sitting on the side of the road feeling sorry for themselves. It really shows you what is important, and that is people – not the things you have."
Canadian NHL hockey star Dan Hamhuis visited Haiti with the National Hockey League Player’s Association (NHLPA) in 2010. The union’s “Hockey for Haiti” initiative raised more than $1 million to help rebuild Grace Children’s Hospital, Haiti’s leading pediatric hospital for the treatment of tuberculosis, which had been devastated by an earthquake earlier in the year.
Since helping to raise awareness for the Haiti earthquake relief, Dan and his wife, Sarah, have continued to be supporters of World Vision through the 30 Hour Famine.
When you sponsor a child, you help break the cycle of poverty by providing a child and their community with life-saving necessities. Canadians have been partnering with World Vision for 60 years, because they've discovered that sponsorship works. With your help, we partner with the child, their family, neighbours and local leaders to transform a struggling community into one that is thriving. World Vision’s programs focus on Food, Education, Health, Clean water, Child Protection and other vital areas which improve the lives of children and their community.
